Marxist theories can be used to explain this since the President controls them by instilling fear using propaganda and the media, the upper class rules and dominates the working class's life, and those in positions of power control ideas and resources.

Good should overcome evil, People should put their families first. Pleasure is a goal in life, Law is better than disorder.

2) What does Gramsci's theory of hegemony suggest about power and ideology in society?

Hegemony is the practise of maintaining power through agreement rather than coercion. He contends that ideology has power because it supports and serves the elite in allowing them to govern through ideas rather than through martial might and fear.

That we should consume more and buy more things, and that having material possessions makes us happy.

Since we rely on the media for many things, including news and things for which we may require assistance, and since some of the information gathered about us is utilised for the benefit of other businesses, I suppose that is the case.
